Bishop Allen is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. The band's core members are Justin Rice and Christian Rudder, who are supported both on stage and in the studio by a rotating cast of musical collaborators. The band was formed in 2003 and grew out of Rice and Rudder's friendship; it takes its name from Bishop Allen Drive in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the two lived together after attending Harvard University.
Bishop Allen has released three albums and 12 EPs; their second album, The Broken String, was released in July 2007 and their most recent album, Grrr..., was released in March 2009.

Auerbach's debut solo album Keep It Hid was released February 10, 2009 on Nonesuch Records. The album was recorded in Auerbach's Akron Analog studio using mainly analog and vintage equipment.^[3] Guests on the album include Auerbach's uncle, guitarist James Quine (first cousin of the late NYC-based guitarist Robert Quine), and protégé Jessica Lea Mayfield.

On tour Dan is usually joined by the band Hacienda along with Patrick Hallahan of My Morning Jacket to fill out the band. They are also known as The Fast Five.

The Shins began in 1997 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a side project of Mercer (previously of Blue Roof Dinner) and Neal Langford, both members of the lo-fi musical group Flake (formed in 1992). By 1999, Flake (now Flake Music) had disbanded and its former members became The Shins. (The name was based on a fictional family in the Broadway show The Music Man, a favorite of Mercer's father.) The band released two 7" singles, "Nature Bears A Vacuum" (1998) and "When I Goosestep" (2000) — and embarked on a tour with Modest Mouse.^[1] During the tour, they were met in San Francisco by a Sub Pop representative, who eventually offered to release their debut album.

Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), popularly known as Biggie Smalls (after a fictional gangster in the 1975 film Let's Do It Again), "The Black Frank White" (based on a fictional drug baron from the 1990 filmKing of New York),^[1] and by his primary stage name The Notorious B.I.G., was an American rapper.

Raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, Wallace grew up during the peak years of the 1980s crack epidemic and started dealing drugs at an early age. When Wallace released his debut album with the 1994 record Ready to Die, he was a central figure in the East Coast hip hop scene and increased New York's visibility at a time when West Coast artists were more common in the mainstream.^[2] The following year, Wallace led his childhood friends to chart success through his protégé group, Junior M.A.F.I.A.. While recording his second album, Wallace was heavily involved in the East Coast-West Coast hip hop feud, dominating the scene at the time.

On March 9, 1997, Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. His double-disc set Life After Death, released fifteen days later, hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000.^[3] Wallace was noted for his "loose, easy flow",^[4] dark semi-autobiographical lyrics and storytelling abilities. Since his death, a further two albums have been released. MTV ranked him at #3 on their list of The Greatest MCs of All Time.^[5]

The Felice Brothers got their start as a band playing in the New York City subway,^[2] but their musical experience started much earlier. The sons of a carpenter, they would play together on Sundays at their father's afternoon barbecues.^[3] They stayed in a little apartment in Brooklyn^[2] and would play in the subway stations at 42nd Street and Union Square and in Greenwich Village.^[4] The three brothers originally hail from Palenville, NY^[2] in the Catskill Mountains.

Now they tour the country, traveling in their "Short Bus".^[1] They went to England in the summer of 2007 to play a handful of shows.^[4] The band worked hard to release their debut album Through These Reins and Gone in 2006 which started the rumblings around the music world. In 2007, the band landed its first record deal with Loose Music in Europe. The momentum was now strong and the band had paved the way for a solid touring schedule and a growing fan base.^[2] Through These Reins and Gone made it onto Radio Woodstock WDST's top 25 albums of 2006. About their album Adventures of the Felice Brothers Vol. 1 James Felice said, "We put one record out on an English label, and we've released all the other stuff ourselves" (on their label [1]New York Pro).^[3] The Felice Brothers have played at Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, NY and also toured with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band last fall.^[4]

Biography

Oren Lavie spent his youth in Israel.^[2] In 1997 his play Sticks and Wheels and his production of it were awarded the main prizes at the Acco Festival of Alternative Israeli Theatre. The production played in Tel Aviv during 1998.^[3] In that year he went to London to study theatre directing at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).^[4] After his graduation two of his plays were produced in various London theatres. They already contained several songs written and composed by him.

In 2001 Oren Lavie moved to New York where he tried to make a living by means of various jobs and where he focused on writing songs. When they had piled up he went to Berlin (2003) and started to do recordings, working as his own producer. His first album, The Opposite Side of the Sea, was completed in 2006; it was released in Europe in January and February 2007. In 2009, his stop motion style music video, "Her Morning Elegance," achieved significant popularity on YouTube,^[5] receiving over 7 million hits.

Oren Lavie names his musical predecessors as Tom Waits, Jacques Brel, and Leonard Cohen.^[2] At the core of his melody-oriented compositions there is always the piano or the guitar with his singing, enriched by string arrangements (cello solo, quartet, chamber orchestra) and various, mainly non-electronical instruments added occasionally, giving each of the songs a unique style and color.

Formation and early years: 1998–2003

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club formed in 1998, taking its name from Marlon Brando's motorcycle gang in the 1953 film The Wild One.^{[citation needed]} The band was originally called The Elements, but after discovering that another band had the same name, it changed the name to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Their second album Take Them On, On Your Own has several songs such as "Generation" and "US Government" that are critical of the United States government.

The band's first two records were indebted to classic hard rock influenced by Led Zeppelin and also encompassed slower paced psychedelic rock, space rock and Noise Pop influences from bands such asThe Verve, Loop, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and The Jesus And Mary Chain. Recently, with their fourth record Baby 81, they developed a more concrete sound and style; encompassing blues, folk, and rock, while remaining angst-ridden in theme.

The vocals are shared between Robert Levon Been (Bass) and Peter Hayes (guitar). Been and Hayes met at high school in the San Francisco Bay Area city of Lafayette and quickly formed a band, Hayes having recently left The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Looking for a drummer, they met Nick Jago, from Devon, England, who had moved to California to be with his parents after spending some time at Winchester School of Art, where he was studying fine art. Been used the pseudonym 'Robert Turner' on the first two records, in an attempt to not be linked to his famous father (Michael Been of The Call.) He later dropped this identity when promoting Howl.

OutKast is an American hip hop duo based in East Point, Georgia, a city south of Atlanta, Georgia. They were originally known as The OKB (The OutKast Brothers) but later changed the group's name to OutKast. If you don't stay sharp, you might miss the best show of the year, namely, Tuesday's shindig in Lawrence with Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. One listen to the group's new disc, Up From Below, and you'll be awash in good feelings. With a warm, analog-tape sound that speaks to a strong Mamas and Papas influence and positive vibrations straight off a utopian hippie farm, the group is mining territory similar to such groups as Dr. Dog and Plants & Animals, with equally spectacular results. Frontman Alex Ebert spent the previous decade with the electro-rock party band Ima Robot, but he's been reborn as the bandleader of a 10-strong folk-rock orchestra. Remember when Arcade Fire played the Jackpot? This might be better.

David John Matthews was born in Johannesburg, the third of four children born to John and Valerie Matthews. At two years old, Matthews' family immigrated to Yorktown Heights in Westchester County, New York, where his father, a physicist, started working for IBM.^[3]

In 1974, the family moved to Cambridge, England, for a year before returning to New York, where his father died from lung cancer in 1977. Biographer Nevin Martell argues that Dave's father's death may be an impetus for his "carpe diem" lyrics.^[4] At some point while residing in New York, Matthews attended his first concert when his mother took him to a performance by Pete Seeger.^[5] The family moved back to Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1977. ^[6]

Upon Matthews' graduation from St Stithians College high school, he was faced with conscription into the South African military just as civil disobedience to the practice was becoming widespread.^[7] A Quaker (and consequently pacifist), Matthews left South Africa to avoid service.^[8]

Matthews moved to New York in 1986 where he worked for I.B.M. for a short time,^[6] then joined his mother in Charlottesville, Virginia the same year, a town Matthews' family had lived in before he was born. ^[6] It was in Charlottesville that he became part of the local music community. ^[8] Pursuing various interests, Matthews acted in various local productions.^{[citation needed]} Although Matthews had started playing the guitar at the age of 9, it was only in Charlotteville that he started performing publicly. ^[6]From time to time local star (and future collaborator) Tim Reynolds had Matthews join him on stage, and another friend, Ross Hoffman, persuaded Matthews to record some of his own songs. ^[6]^[9] This eventually led to his first professional musical gig at a modern dance performance by the Miki Liszt Dance Company, based at McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville, singing "Meaningful Love", composed by John D'earth and Dawn Thompson. ^[10] In 1991 he hatched the idea to form his own band. ^[6]

Auerbach grew up in a family with strong musical roots. His cousin is the late Robert Quine. Auerbach became infatuated with blues music after listening to his father's old vinyl records during his childhood.^[1] He was influenced early-on by his mother's side of the family, notably his cousin who played bluegrass music. He was heavily influenced by Junior Kimbrough in college, eventually resulting in him dropping out to pursue the guitar more seriously. "I've listened to him so much, it's just how I hear it... I studied him so much... Getting F's in college, when I should've been studying, I was listening to Junior Kimbrough's music instead".^[2] Other major influences include: Robert Johnson, Robert Nighthawk, T-Model Ford, Hound Dog Taylor, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Kokomo Arnold.

Mellowdrome consists of founding member Jonathan Bates, Tony Dematteo, and Brian Borg. The band's music encompasses a range of styles from lo-fi, indie rock and experimental.^[1] Mellowdrone's music has appeared on several television shows, including Project Runway, Six Feet Under, and Cane.^{[citation needed]} "C'mon and try a little bit" was featured in the opening scene of Driv3r. Their song "Oh My," from the 2006 album Box, was featured on the FIFA 07 soundtrack. The song "Fashionably Uninvited" was included in the soundtrack for the 2007 film The Invisible.^[2] "Orange Marmalade" was featured in the 2008 film Never Back Down. "Beautiful Day" was featured on Project Gotham Racing 2. Former member Cami Gutierrez (AKA Cami Grey) is now a part of the indie electropop band Uh Huh Her.^[3]

2004 saw the release of two Shawn Lee albums. Soul Visa (in Japan only, on Rush!) and the debut release of Shawn's instrumental side project Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra. The first of which is entitled Music and Rhythm on Ubiquity Records. 2005 also saw two more records from Mr. Lee; Harmonium (in Japan only, on Rush!) and the second Ping Pong album Moods and Grooves. As the success of the Ping Pong series grew Shawn was offered his first full movie soundtrack. The movie is entitled "Save Angel Hope" and will be released in 2007. The Industry has been quick to embrace the Ping Pong sound. PPO tracks have been featured in the TV series: Malcom In The Middle, Lost, Desperate Housewives, CSI: Miami, Ugly Betty, Boston Legal, Rodney,Damages, Good Morning America etc., Movies: Oceans 13, The Break Up,The Bank Job, Pool Hall Prophets. Ads for BMW, Cinemax, Jaguar, Barclays, Exxon, Head & Shoulders and numerous Skate,snowboarding & Surf films. Shawn also has composed a video game soundtrack for Rockstar (Grand Theft Auto etc.). The game is entitled "Bully" and was released in october 2006. The selected soundtrack album for Bully/Canem canis edit is available on itunes,emusic and was released in stores december 2006 on Ultra.

2006 an American and European release for Soul Visa and the release of volume three Strings and Things by the Ping Pong Orchestra. Also look out for Mr. Lee doing "No Surprises " on an a Radiohead covers album called "Exit Music". Plus vocal collaborations with Muallem, Silent Poets, Sparo and Blackjoy. Remixes for The Thievery Corporation, Nino Moschella, Dust Galaxy, Jack Arel, Tony Joe White, Elmer Bernstein and Lord Large. November 2006 saw Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra vs Nino Moschella EP hit the streets featuring "Kiss The Sky".

January 2007, the fourth Ping Pong Orchestra album "Voices and Choices" was released and features guest vocals from: Ohmega Watts, Nino Moschella and Pierre D. Shawn chips in with textural vocals and takes the PPO sound onto some next level shit! Kiss The Sky (from the 4th Ping Pong album "Voices and choices"), becomes itunes "single of the week" and is downloaded a quarter of a million times in one week! Not one to rest, Mr. Lee has been beavering away in his London studio "Trans-Yank" on a number of new albums including a Ping Pong POP covers album entitled "Hit's The Hits" which was released on October 9, 2007, followed swiftly by a Ping Pong Christmas album called "A Very Ping Pong Xmas".

2008: Feb. 5th see's the release of the enigmatic Clutchy Hopkins album "Walking Backwards". Look out for this supremely dope album featuring a collaboration track with yours truly called "Song For Wolfy"! April will see the release of the 7th Ping Pong Orchestra album entitled "Miles Of Styles". It features some new musical maneuvers and the first lead vocal from Shawn on a PPO record! The Funky Tiger is also putting the finishing touches on the "Under The Sun" surf film soundtrack as we speak. The original soundtrack album will be released on Ubiquity later in the year. So move over, Shawn Lee is now "the new hardest working (tiger) man in show business!!!"

Li was born in Ystad, Skåne, in Sweden, in 1986 and was raised by artistic parents; her mother was a painter, her father is a musician.^[1] The family moved to Stockholm when Li was a toddler and later moved to a mountaintop in Portugal when Li was six, where they lived for five years; the family also spent time in Lisbon and Morocco and spent winters in Nepal and India.^[1]^[2] She moved to the neighborhood of Bushwick,Brooklyn in New York for three months when she was 19.^[3]^[4]^[5] She returned when she was 21 to record her album.^[6] When not touring, she resides in the Södermalm district of Stockholm.

She released her first album, Youth Novels on LL Recordings in the Nordic region on 4 February 2008 and it received a wider European release in June, 2008. The album was produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John and Lasse Mårtén. It was released in the United States on 6 May 2008. The album was released in the Republic of Ireland on 6 June 2008 and 9 June in the UK. The album was inspired by a previous relationship of three years .

She had some success with the EP "Little Bit" in 2007. Stereogum named her an artist to watch in October 2007 and described her music as a mix of soul, electro and "powdered-sugar pop".^[7]

She has appeared on Swedish musician Kleerup's self titled album, contributing vocals to the track "Until We Bleed". She also worked with Röyksopp on their album Junior, contributing vocals to "Miss It So Much".

According to her Myspace Blog, she has started writing material for her second album but insists it will be a long wait until it is finished for fans to hear.^[8]

Scott and Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers do a lot of things well in making their band's brand of bluegrass music, but they do one of them even better than the others. It's not that they are easily one of the most engaging and dynamic live acts in the country, turning predominantly string-based, love ballads and stories into barn-burning stomps that are unlikely candidates for being some of the most percussive songs you'll ever hear. Your body beats when they play, the heart feels the floor and the skin gets the hair shaken clean off of it. What they do so well has to do with what the two dapper and charming men of rural North Carolina care about and how they choose their reflections. Last week, I recall reading a song description refer to the inspiration for a tune coming from hearing such phony pawning of emotions that should never be taken as light and malleable, as things to be toyed with. It was such an unsettling experience to hear love and relative feelings being traded and offered so disingenuously, as if they were just a bag of dry goods or printed condolence or celebratory greeting cards. Many people are so quick to pass off the next closest thing to concern, joy or sorrow that they can find without ever investing in it. The two brothers know why they were put here and what they want to put their greatest efforts into before they get wiped away by old age and time. There is nothing fabricated or staged in the music that they and band members Bob Crawford (upright bass) and Joe Kwon (cello) make, just an extension of the gracious and tender feelings that really must rest in them. They are humble family men who can make grown men cry with a small, almost insignificant use of the word "daughter" in the song "Murder In The City," off "The Second Gleam," where Scott Avett now sings live about his recent first-born (a slight change from the recorded version, which makes all of the difference in the world in altering the mood) noting, "Make sure my daughter knows I loved her, make sure my mother knows the same/Always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name." It's almost all you need to know about the Avett Brothers before you just immerse yourself in their material, rich in that kind of heritage and in the belief that there's real love out there, unbreakable love and it only hurts when the unthinkable is happening, when it is breaking. They do adore that idea of unbreakable love - like love of the family - and it's moving. It seems to move them just as much as the songs - so alive and present and stunning - appear to be affecting them every time they play them, as if a new set of thoughts is there to join the others, adding to emotion. The emotions topple each other, bear hug them and give them a hearty slap on the back. The Avetts allow this to happen, encourage it even with eyes and an ear to the matters that they'll never tire of, finding themselves regularly going into them with such passionate blindness and fury that they rejuvenate the fires that originally brought them to the fore. It might have been said best by the band's bus driver, there in Austin with them for the first time, having never heard them play before. He sat in Big Orange along with an enraptured, small gathering at 10 o'clock in the morning. The boys were dressed in their Sunday best on this Friday morning and they unleashed, which with an even more minimal microphone set-up than we usually use, comes across. At the end of the set, the old man who was going to be behind the wheel for the long haul home said, "Boys, that gave me God bumps." Scott told him thank you and said that he should expect there to be a lot more of that.

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in 1962 in London when multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart were joined by vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts completed the early lineup. Stewart, deemed unsuitable as a teen idol, was removed from the official lineup in 1963 but continued to work with the band as road manager and keyboardist until his death in 1985.

Early in the band's history Jagger and Richards formed a songwriting partnership and gradually took over leadership of the band from the increasingly troubled and erratic Jones. At first the group recorded mainly covers of American blues and R&B songs, but since the 1966 albumAftermath, their releases have mainly featured Jagger/Richards songs. Mick Taylor replaced an incapacitated Jones shortly before Jones's death in 1969. Taylor quit in 1974, and was replaced in 1975 by Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood, who has remained with the band ever since. Wyman left the Rolling Stones in 1992; bassist Darryl Jones, who is not an official band member, has worked with the group since 1994.

Langhorne Slim is a folk singer, born Sean Scolnick on August 20, 1980, based out of Brooklyn, New York. Originally hailing from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, he attended High School at The Solebury School inNew Hope, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, part of the SUNY system.
He began to gain public notice through several years of touring with the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players and an appearance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. His song Electric Love Letter was recently number 5 on the Rolling Stone editor's top ten picks. The song was also in the movie Waitress. He has recently been seen on tours with Cake, The Avett Brothers, Murder By Death, Jeffrey Lewis, The Violent Femmes, Lucero, and Rocky Votolato.
In 2006, Langhorne Slim and the War Eagles signed to V2 Records. For one EP (Engine EP, 2006) and an LP due out in early 2007. However, after V2 folded on the deal regarding the highly anticipated release, the band signed to Kemado Records, and released a self-titled album on April 29th, 2008.
A Langhorne Slim Daytrotter Session was released on October 9, 2006.

Mississippi John Hurt - Candy Man Blues

Born John Smith Hurt in Teoc,^[6] Carroll County, Mississippi and raised in Avalon, Mississippi, Hurt learned to play guitar at age 9. He spent much of his youth playing old time music for friends and dances, earning a living as a farm hand into the 1920s.^[7] In 1923 he partnered with thefiddle player Willie Narmour as a substitute for his regular partner Shell Smith.^[7] When Narmour got a chance to record for Okeh Records as a prize for winning first place in a 1928 fiddle contest, Narmour recommended John Hurt to Okeh Records producer Tommy Rockwell. After auditioning "Monday Morning Blues" at his home, he took part in two recording sessions, in Memphis and New York City (see Discography below).^[7] The "Mississippi" tag was added by Okeh as a sales gimmick. After the commercial failure of the resulting records, and Okeh Records going out of business during the Great Depression, Hurt returned to Avalon and obscurity, working as a sharecropper and playing local parties and dances.^[5]

In 1963, however, a folk musicologist, Tom Hoskins, inspired by the recordings, was able to locate Hurt near Avalon, Mississippi.^[8] Seeing that Hurt's guitar playing skills were still intact, Hoskins encouraged him to move to Washington, D.C., and begin performing on a wider stage. His performance at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival saw his star rise amongst the new folk revival audience.^[5] Before his death he played extensively in colleges, concert halls, coffee houses and also on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, as well as recording three further albums for Vanguard Records.^[5] The numbers his devotees particularly liked were the ragtime songs "Salty Dog" and "Candy Man", and the blues ballads "Spike Driver Blues" (a variant of "John Henry") and "Frankie".^[5]

Hurt's influence spanned several music genres including blues, country, bluegrass, folk and contemporary rock and roll. A soft-spoken man, his nature was reflected in the work, which remained a mellow mix of country, blues and old time music to the end.^[7]

Hurt died in November 1966 from a heart attack in Grenada, Mississippi.^[9]

Bob Schneider (born October 12, 1965) is an Austin, Texas-based musician and artist, born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and raised in Munich, Germany. The son of an opera singer, he moved with his parents to Germany when he was two. He learned guitar and piano at an early age and made his first live appearances performing at his parents' parties.

He performed for years in various bands before embarking on a solo career. He dropped out of the University of Texas at El Paso where he studied art to front his first band, the funk-and-rap outfit Joe Rockhead. The band independently released three albums before disbanding immediately prior to signing with a major label.

A stint with a jamming outfit called the Ugly Americans followed, which experienced some success as an opening act for the Dave Matthews Band and Horde.

In 1997, Schneider went on to co-found The Scabs, which later merged with the Ugly Americans. With The Scabs, Bob Schneider made a further name for himself as the front man.

Jurassic 5 came together from two separate crews, the Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee. The group formed at the Los Angeles, California health store #Good Life|the Good Life Cafe, where they performed at the open mic nights along with Good Life regulars such as Freestyle Fellowship, Abstract Rude, and many others. According to Cut Chemist, "The Good Life was a renaissance period in hip hop."^{[citation needed]}

Jurassic 5 released their first record, Jurassic 5 EP, in 1997. The record cemented their position in the 1990s alternative hip hop movement, alongside artists such as Company Flow, Black Star and Kool Keith. The EP was later repackaged with additional tracks and released in December 1998 as the band's full-length debut album, entitled Jurassic 5 LP. The tracks hearkened back to the old school attitude of New York's Native Tongues Posse^{[citation needed]}, which included De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest. The song "Concrete Schoolyard", and the album provided the troupe with a Top 40 single when it reached number 35 in November 1998.^{[citation needed]}

In 1999, Jurassic 5 signed to Interscope Records, who re-released the Jurassic 5 EP. This was followed by their second album (their first on a major label), Quality Control.

In 2003, they released their third album, Power In Numbers, which was followed by touring with the newly-revived Lollapalooza festival in summer 2003.

Jurassic 5 toured without Cut Chemist, who left the group to pursue a solo career [1]. The remaining 5 members have recorded and have released their fourth album, Feedback, on July 25, 2006.

Jurassic 5 split in February 2007. The reason for the split was unclear; however member Soup had this to say: "I don't want to sit here and fake around with it - we're not seeing eye-to-eye right now." ^[1]

In 2009, Jurassic 5 alumni Zaakir and Mark 7even formed the hip hop group Portable Payback.^[2] In 2009 Akil the MC founded the L.A. Unified Skill District.

In 1997, Schneider went on to co-found The Scabs, which later merged with the Ugly Americans. With The Scabs, Bob Schneider made a further name for himself as the front man.

None of these bands gained much national recognition, but built solid reputations on the road. They were also a fixture in the Austin live music culture.

In 1999, Schneider became a solo act, though performing at first under the band name Lonelyland (which he later dropped as a band name, but titled his first major label album after). Schneider's musical approach as a solo artist has proven as eclectic as the diverse musical styles of his former bands -- a little bit singer/songwriter, a whole lot of bits and pieces of funk, country, rock, and folk. Because of the sexual nature of some of his lyrics, Schneider's music has been labeled as "adult alternative" by some.

He went on to record the major label solo albums, Lonelyland (2001) and I'm Good Now (2004), which garnered him significantly more national attention and some critical acclaim. "Big Blue Sea" from the Lonelyland album received some radio play, as did the title track from I'm Good Now. The track "Blue Skies for Everyone" was played during the opening sequence of the movie "Gunshy," starring Liam Neeson, while "The World Exploded Into Love" closed out the first episode of the television sitcom "Men in Trees," starring Anne Heche. "Bullets" appeared on the "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" soundtrack.

His contract with his labels (first Universal, and now Vanguard) allow him to release albums as "side projects" on his own label. Among the albums that have been self-released are, Galaxy Kings and I've Seen The End of the World and It Looks Like This. All of these side projects were re-released by Vanguard corresponding with the release of his 2006 album The Californian. Previously, these albums were of limited availability and only roughly 10,000 of the albums were printed. After releasing The Californian, his latest studio effort, he released Greatest Hits Live, recorded in Austin on July 17, 2006, by Shockorama Records, which is only available on his website.

Bob remains committed to playing smaller venues and thrives on the energy of the stage. He currently plays regularly at the Saxon Pub and Antone's solo in Austin, Texas, as well as with Lonelyland or the Scabs on occasion, while touring relentlessly. Although he tours nationwide, he is still known as a true Austin musician. His musical influences spread into the far reaches of musical culture--funk, soul, folk, lounge, rap, punk, even some melodic experimentalism.

He is also known for having dated Sandra Bullock--the breakup that followed their passionate relationship became fodder for his music. It has been speculated that much of his initial national recognition was fostered by his famous girlfriend, but he has maintained a loyal following even after the two parted ways.

Schneider toured with The Dixie Chicks in 2006. He is a reserved yet self-proclaimed supporter of free speech. Bob's current appearances are regularly updated on his Myspace music page.

Grand Ole Party is a trio from San Diego, California consisting of singer-drummer Kristin Gundred, guitarist John Paul Labno, and bassist Michael Krechnyak. They started playing in San Diego in mid-2006, having moved from the San Francisco area. The three met while attending college at University of California, Santa Cruz.

Their debut album, Humanimals, was produced by Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley and was released on DH Records in January 2007. The band opened for Rilo Kiley on their tour from September to November 2007 and for Rogue Wave in spring 2008.

They were nominated for "Best New Artist" in the 2006 San Diego Music Awards but lost to Kite Flying Society. However, they were voted "Best Alternative" band in the 2007 San Diego Music Awards.^[1]

In the January 2008 issue of San Diego Magazine they were chosen as one of the "50 People to Watch in 2008" [1]

In 1998, she and friends Pierre De Reeder, Blake Sennett and Dave Rock formed the band Rilo Kiley. (Rock was replaced by Jason Boesel.) In an interview with NPR's All Songs Considered, Lewis remarked that she wanted to name the group Love's Way (after her parents' lounge act in Las Vegas), but Sennett "didn't go for it."^[3]
Beginning with a country sound, Rilo Kiley gravitated toward a downbeat indie rock sound, and with its 2004 album More Adventurous found widespread success. Critics such as Pitchfork Media attributed this to the "wise" decision to emphasize Lewis's voice and presence more so than in previous albums. The song "Portions for Foxes" was a hit, and in 2005 the band was picked up by Warner Bros. (via its own imprint, Brute/Beaute Records), putting them on a major label for the first time. The band opened for Coldplay on its U.S. tour in 2005. Rilo Kiley's 2007 album Under the Blacklight was released directly by Warner Bros.
